10 Photos From Seattle
Ten Favorite Fujifilm GFX 50R Captures From a Weekend in Seattle
It was my first trip out of the country with the GFX 50R and only the second time using the camera for travel and street photography while away from home.
The camera is still very new to me and although it did cross my mind to bring my X-Pro3 along in case I would find the GFX 50R cumbersome to carry I stuck with the choice of just bringing the GFX 50R and the GF 50mm f/3.5 R LM WR lens.
Suzzallo Library, University of Washington
We joined our son, his wife, and one-year-old toddler for a couple of days in Seattle. The draw was a Matt Nathanson concert at the Neptune Theatre in the University District and we stayed at the historic College Inn Hotel. Our granddaughter hired us a babysitter while mom and dad went to the concert.
It was a welcome surprise to us that we stayed in the University District as this allowed us to explore an area of Seattle that we’d never been in before.
I chose three photos from the Suzzallo Library at the University of Washington State as this, visually, proved to be the biggest surprise and photographic treat on this trip.
University District
The area around University Way NE came alive during a street market with live bands and $4.00 food specials in almost all the restaurant and food outlets. Again, another surprise, and a great way to try out some street photography with the GFX 50R, which handled the task wonderfully.
The rest was up to the photographer and I only came away with a few keepers. For sure it’s a larger camera to lug around but I can’t say that it bothered me too much. We were blessed with brilliant weather in Seattle with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the mid-twenties.
Downtown and Pike Place Market
We took the metro/train to the downtown area and swung by the Pike Place Market early enough Sunday morning before things got too busy. Walking from the Westlake Station to Pike Place there are plenty of street photography opportunities and I loved how the light reflected down between buildings.
We continued our Sunday morning stroll up West 4th Ave heading for the park around the Space Needle and stumbled upon the colorful facade of the Cinerama building. It was the sixtieth anniversary of the monorail and we tried it out on our way back to the University District.
It was great to see the monorail design from the sixties with the curved shape of the train cars and large windows giving you a great view of Seattle.
The photos in this post are made using the following photography gear and editing tools.
