Main Street Car Free Day, Vancouver
Vancouver Main Street Car Free Day Bring Out the Crowds and the Sun
We were looking for something to do on a sunny Sunday afternoon in late September. The car-free day on Main Street was on and I was eager to test my newly acquired Fujifilm GFX 50R for street photography.
I normally find street markets difficult to photograph as many of the images will turn out very cliché and unless the light is spectacular I find that I rarely come home with images that spike my interest.
Sometimes this all changes when you have a new camera around your neck as motivation may be a bit higher to produce images. Or in my case, I was curious to see how the GFX 50R would perform for street photography.
Most photographers may not associate a GFX camera with street photography but I have found them quite capable of this genre. Autofocus is plenty fast in favorable lighting conditions and Sunday was indeed more than okay for light.
One side of the street was in shade and the other in very strong late summer late afternoon light. Multiple bands and performers of all genres were playing on every street block and countless food vendors were tempting us as we walked up Main Street.
Main Street in Vancouver is also known for its quaint shops and excellent restaurants. I found it the most rewarding to photograph in the late but at times harsh late afternoon sun. Long shadows and vibrant colors were everywhere.
