Two Byskov Families Road Trip to the Okanagan
On the Road With the Byskovs
It was as if summer didn’t have a solid grip yet in early July but we were hopeful for sunny and warm days in the Okanagan. The Okanagan Valley usually delivers on that front. We packed light and managed to fit all five of us in our VW Golf and made our first stop for a refreshing swim at Carrs Landing.
Threatening clouds hung all around us but the rain never happened. It was a typical Okanagan summer day as we recalled them from living in the valley for more than twenty years.
One of our favorite swimming spots in the Okanagan is in Carrs Landing. The beach is usually not very busy. There is a wonderful cafe along Carrs Landing Road and in the hills above you can visit several wineries such as Grey Monk, Xnihilo, and Arrow Leaf.
We stayed in a wonderful condo at The Strand in Vernon and enjoyed our meals on the patio and hung out by the pool almost every day. A great place to stay if you are Vernon
Elison Provincial Park
You can visit Elison Provincial Park and campground year round but nothing beats an early summer evening with a picnic dinner and dip in the lake.
Philippe joined us and it was time to show our friends Søren and Mette this spot where we have spent so many hours over the years.
Highway 97 Stops
We made a few stops heading south on Highway 97. At Mission Hill Winery we found out that Blue Rodeo was playing a concert later in the evening but unfortunately it was a members-only event. We would have loved to see them on a warm Okanagan summer evening.
Our lunch stop was in Peachland where we found a picnic table overlooking the lake. In Oliver, we pulled over to have ice cream at Tickleberrie’s, a popular stop if you don’t mind the lineups.
Osoyoos
For several years Di did work in Osoyoos and I have been on photo assignments several times. After checking into the Best Western we did a wine tasting at NK'MIP Cellars, walked along the lake, and found that it was hard to find a restaurant that was open. We ended up having dinner at Tim Hortons.
The photos in this post are made using the following photography gear.
