Voigtländer Nokton 50mm f/1.2 Aspherical VM - Two Weeks With a New Lens

The Honeymoon Phase With a New Lens

I am in the honeymoon phase with a used, new to me, Voigtländer Nokton 50mm f/1.2 Aspherical VM. Those who have followed my blog for some time may have noticed a few reviews I have done with this lens (links below). I have reviewed it on the Fujifilm GFX 50R, Nikon Zf, and Fujifilm X-Pro2.

You would think I always buy gear after reviewing it, but I fear this would result in a financial catastrophe. The Voigtländer Nokton 50mm f/1.2 is an exception. I have had it for a couple of weeks now and have mostly done street photography with it.

This will not be a full review as it would become repetitive from my other Nokton 50mm reviews. Thanks to my friend Kyle, I was able to familiarize myself with this lens before purchasing it. I had been looking for a used copy for a while and finally succeeded when a copy showed up at Camtec Photo in Montreal.

The lens is in A+ shape, and I paid roughly $700.00 for it. I appreciate the Voigtländer Nokton 50mm f/1.2 for its excellent build quality, superbly smooth manual focusing, wonderfully tactile overall feel, and fast 1.2 max. F-stop.

When shot wide open, the Nokton renders images with a classic vintage feel, but it is also very sharp when stopped down. The bokeh is very smooth without being over-the-top swirly, like some vintage-style lenses.

That’s a wrap for this “Musings” post. I hope you enjoy the images.
