Hiking With Friends at Wenderhold Regional Park in New Zealand

Wenderholm Regional Park is located approximately a 35-minute drive north of Auckland on the east coast of New Zealand by the estuaries of the Puhoi River and Waiwera River.

The location was suggested by our friends Leighton and Sharon and we filled two cars with friends eager for some fresh air and a Saturday hike.

The Hike at Wenderholm Regional Park

Due to a significant elevation gain over a relatively short distance, the hike at Wenderholm Regional Park is rated hard.

The trail, however, is in good shape, has lots of stairs, and takes you through the lush forest till you reach the rewarding viewpoint at the top.

I will admit we were huffing and puffing and certainly broke a sweat climbing the 143 meters / 472 ft. over a distance of about 2 kilometers, 1.2 miles. But we reached the top nonetheless. The total length of the trail is 2.5K / 1.6 miles.

At the beginning of the trail, you walk by the Couldrey House, a historic Victorian-Edwardian family home set in a beautiful garden. You can enter the house and volunteer tour guides will show you around.

As mentioned above the trail at Wenderholm Regional Park is a relatively short hike but it fit the bill perfectly for our group on this Saturday and we duly celebrated our momentous efforts with a grand lunch.

Thanks to Sharon, Leighton, Hannah, Josh and Karen for joining us for yet another great New Zealand experience.
