A Magical Visit to Bergamo
Snippets From Our France and Italy Trip
McKenzie hosted us in Lecco, Italy, for three nights and suggested a day trip to Bergamo. How could we say no? The drive from Lecco to Bergamo was about an hour, and as a first-time visitor, there were lots to feast your eye on.
We parked near the Carmine Monastery, and to start the day on a good note, we enjoyed a splendid breakfast and coffee in a cozy backyard setting. Now, we were ready to explore.

McKenzie had been to Bergamo several times, so we followed her through the narrow streets. We stopped for a while to marvel at the architecture of Piazza del Duomo and the striking Campanone tower.
We arrived at Bergamo reasonably early in the morning, and for the first couple of hours, the atmosphere in this ancient city felt tranquil, laid-back, and relaxed.
After Piazza del Duomo, we navigated the narrow streets uphill to Parco della Rocca e Fauna Orobica, a fantastic park/garden rich in fauna and amazing views of Bergamo and surrounding areas. Di and McKenzie used an app to identify plants and flowers.

On our way back to the car, we checked out several souvenir shops, and I was element doing street photography.
On our drive to Lecco, we circled to the top of Bergamo, which was a ton of fun with very narrow roads and great lookouts. We stopped for a refreshing swim along Lago di Garlate, and in many ways, this area reminded us of our former home in the Okanagan Valley in Canada.
We wrapped the day with delicious ice cream from McKenzie’s favorite spot in Lecco. An excellent day altogether.
Thanks again, McKenzie, for being an excellent tour guide.
