Bovbjerg, Denmark, on a Beautiful Windy Summer Day

The 41-Meter High Sandhill Bluffs at Bovbjerg, Denmark

A Return to an Old Favorite

I grew up near Bovbjerg, in the small town of Lemvig on the Danish West Coast. When we returned for a visit last summer, Bovbjerg, as usual, was on our itinerary. It’s a place that soothes our souls, the views are breathtaking, and it’s a place where the fresh air can clear your mind in no time.

The setting on the Danish West Coast is framed by the 41-meter-high sand bluffs, the North Sea, and wooden stairs that will lead you from the bluffs to the beach below.

We arrived at Bovbjerg Beach on a day with winds so strong that you could lean in with your full weight a the top of the bluffs and not fall over. This is a game we have played ever since I was a kid. I suggest standing a few feet from the edge when playing this game :)

The colors of the sky, the North Sea, and the sand bluffs were out of this world beautiful, and I was pleased that I brought my camera. For several years I have done an annual large 13” x 11” photo book and four of the photos from this stunningly beautiful summer day were picked for my 2023 book.

The West Coast of Denmark deserves to be on any traveler’s bucket list. It’s a coastal stretch with unparalleled natural beauty. If you do find yourself in this part of the world we warmly recommend a stop at Bovbjerg.

We have another more in-depth post from Bovbjerg from when we paid a visit earlier in our travels:
